Five Common Home Plumbing Emergencies

Home Plumbing Emergencies

Plumbing emergencies can pop up seemingly out of the blue, causing momentary panic as you try to figure out what it is and how to fix it. While plumbing emergencies in your home can be an unwelcome surprise, there’s no need for panic. We at Loyalty Plumbing LLC, located in Cypress, will always be here to help! Today we’ll be covering five of the most common plumbing emergencies that may arise in your home, so that if they do you will know what you are looking at and who to call!

1. Malfunctioning water heater:

There are several ways that your water heater can malfunction, and a lot of times these issues can come down to wear and tear on the unit. Is the water not coming out hot? Is the water coming out a weird color? Is there a growing puddle of water underneath the water heater? Any of these can be a sign that there is an issue with your water heater that needs to be addressed ASAP. Sometimes the part can be repaired, but other times you may find yourself needing an entirely new unit. At Loyalty Plumbing, we’ll be sure to get the answer for you quickly!

2. Running toilet:

If your toilet sounds like water is constantly running through it, this can be a cry for help from said toilet. While this type of issue is not likely to cause home damage, it will absolutely cause wallet damage as it jumps your water bill sky-high. Typically, this can be remedied by having a plumber come out to relace the flapper valve, or it may be a hard water buildup that has caused a drainage issue. Either way, have someone come take a look to save you from your money going, quite literally, down the drain.

3. Clogged toilets or drains:

With your bathroom being one of the hardest working rooms in your house when it comes to plumbing, it’s no surprise that this room contains some of the most common household plumbing issues: clogged toilets or drains. The amount of wear and tear on these pipes can be worsened by items not meant to be flushed getting in there. Examples can include a child flushing toys, non-flushable wipes or paper products, etc. Getting a plumber out to take a look is your best bet for this issue, although you can also try a plunger to start. With your drains, these can get clogged by things like loose hair or makeup products and can usually be handled by using a drain snake.

4. Leaky faucets:

Ok, to start with…listening to a leaky faucet for hours on end is one of the more annoying things in life. Aside from that, it can also add up pretty quickly on your water bill. The other concern with a leaky faucet is that the water that is left standing in your pipes can cause damage, such as rust or mold. Get a professional our as soon as you notice the leak to assess the damage and get the issue resolved.

5. Burst pipes:

Out of all of the issues that we’ve mentioned here today, this one will probably be the most immediate emergency you could come across with plumbing in your home. The cause of a burst pipe is generally when the water pressure in the pipe is too much for a weak spot that it comes across. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear the popping sound that usually accompanies a pipe bursting. More often than not, though, homeowners miss it. As soon as you notice wet spots on the walls or floor or if you see a dramatic spike in your water bill, call a plumber to come out and see what’s what.

There are many more plumbing issues that can arise in your home, but there are by far the most common to see. The key is to stay aware of what the norm is for your home and to make the call as soon as something is outside of that. Our plumbers here at Loyalty Plumbing will be there to help when you need us.
